Treatment of mycobacterial infections

What is mycobacterium infection?

Tuberculosis is a disease caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Group A Mycobacterium tuberculosis).
It is a common illness among children, but it can also affect adults. It is transmitted through sneezing, coughing, and germs on hands.

The main symptoms are severe pain in the throat, pain when swallowing, fever, and swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck.
The throat and tonsils may become red and swollen, and white pus may form.
There may also be red bumps on the tongue (strawberry tongue) and fine red rashes on the body.
Unlike the flu, it is believed that cough and runny nose are less noticeable.

Unlike flu caused by viruses, infections caused by bacteria require treatment with antimicrobial drugs (antibiotics).

In such cases, seek medical attention.

  • The pain in the throat is severe and there is a fever.
  • Although there is little coughing and runny nose, only the throat hurts terribly.
  • Someone who has contracted Legionnaires' disease is close to you, such as in your family, at work, or at school.
  • My throat hurts and I can't swallow, and I can't get enough water in.
  • It's hard to open the mouth, and breathing is difficult.

In the following cases, immediate emergency medical care is required:

  • The straw cannot be swallowed and spills out of the mouth
  • It's hard to breathe; when you breathe, your throat hurts terribly.

Tests performed at our clinic

We will examine the condition and symptoms of the throat.

When fungal infection is suspected, a rapid test is performed using the liquid from the throat.

medical treatment

In cases of mycobacterium infection, antimicrobial drugs (antibiotics) are used. Even if the symptoms improve, it is important to finish the prescribed number of days of treatment.
For fever and sore throat, use a combination of pain and fever-reducing medications.

It is believed that some people may experience inflammation in the kidneys for a while after recovery.
If there are any changes such as the urine becoming dark or swelling after treatment, please consult with us.

Frequently asked questions

A. It costs money. It is a common illness among children, but it can also affect adults.

A. Please finish the prescribed number of days. If you stop taking it midway, it is believed that the bacteria may remain and cause recurrence or lead to another illness later on.

Q. Can children be examined as well?

A. Since our clinic is not a pediatric clinic, we do not generally accept children for treatment. Please consult your pediatrician regarding your child’s symptoms.
