Treatment of mycoplasma infections

What is mycoplasma infection?

Mycoplasma infections are diseases caused by infection with the microorganism called Pneumocystis jiroveci. Inflammation can occur in the throat and bronchi, leading to pneumonia (pneumocystis pneumonia). It is more common in children and young adults, but it can also affect adults. It is transmitted through sneezing and coughing, and can spread through family members, schools, and workplaces.

The main symptoms are fever, fatigue, headache, and sore throat. It is characterized by a lot of dry cough, which may persist for a long time after the fever has subsided. Because it starts with similar symptoms as a cold, it can be difficult to distinguish at first.

Most of these symptoms are mild, but if you develop pneumonia, you may experience fever and coughing that become severe, and you may feel breathless.

In such cases, seek medical attention.

  • Even after the fever has subsided, the cough continues for a long time.
  • The cough is severe and I can't sleep at night either.
  • High heat persists
  • Breathing is difficult
  • Someone close to you has been infected with Mycoplasma, such as your family, school, or workplace

Tests performed at our clinic

medical treatment

Mycoplasma lacks a cell wall, so some commonly used antimicrobial drugs (antibiotics) are ineffective against it. Therefore, we choose antimicrobial drugs tailored to mycoplasma. For cough and fever, we use combination medications to alleviate symptoms.

It is important to get enough rest and to drink plenty of fluids.
