Outpatient fever clinic

About the fever clinic

At our clinic, we treat patients with sudden fevers. In addition to fever, we also treat sudden illnesses such as sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache, fatigue, diarrhea, and nausea.

The causes of fever include colds (respiratory tract infections), influenza, COVID-19, and infectious gastroenteritis.
Influenza and COVID-19 can cause similar symptoms to the common cold, so it can be difficult to tell them apart by symptoms alone. In some cases, the symptoms may be accompanied by bacterial infections such as pneumonia. During the examination, we use these symptoms to distinguish between these illnesses.

Tests performed at our clinic

Colds are often diagnosed based on symptoms, and it is often not necessary to perform tests.

When suspected of influenza or COVID-19, a rapid test is performed using nasal fluid.

When the symptoms are severe or if pneumonia is suspected, blood tests and X-rays may be performed.

medical treatment

We prescribe medications tailored to your symptoms, such as medications to relieve fever and pain, medications to relieve nasal congestion and cough, and medications to prevent nausea.
When bacterial infection is suspected, antimicrobial drugs (antibiotics) may be used.
Infectious disease treatment medications (antiviral drugs) may be prescribed.
When diarrhea and vomiting continue, it is important to drink fluids to prevent dehydration.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Can I see a plastic surgeon in the same building as the orthopedic department even if I have a fever?

A. Yes. Our hospital operates within the same building as the orthopedic department, and we treat patients with fever just like other patients.

Q. Do I have to have the test done?

A. Not necessarily. We perform the test when there is a suspicion of influenza or the new coronavirus infection, or when pneumonia is a concern.

Q. Can I be given antibiotics if I have a fever?

A. Most cases of colds and gastroenteritis are caused by viruses; antibiotics are not effective against viruses. They may be used when bacterial infection is suspected.

Q. Can you also diagnose a child's fever?

A. Since our clinic is not a pediatric clinic, we do not generally accept children for treatment. Please consult your pediatrician regarding your child’s symptoms.
